Hey Allen have you tried to put your antenna Horizonal ? you may find you can hear the dx better as not many of them operate vertical , Your inverted Vee actually use's both horizonal and vertical beamwiths and as such you loose abt 1-2 db on rx and tx it may help you by changing over to Horizonal. just an idea.
Thats they way me and Joseph are doing so well.......
